Abstract
This research sheds light on the relationship between the Ayatollahs of western Tripoli and Spain in the modern era, as that relationship witnessed a clear change in the Spanish policy towards the Ayala from its view of the northern African regions in the sixteenth century.
Q. Spain concluded in 1784 a treaty with the Ayala, which laid the foundations for the Spanish-Tripoli relations in the nineteenth century
