As a result of the deteriorating political and economic conditions that Sudan was going through, successive civilian governments for the period (1956-1958), the government of Abdullah Khalil was forced in 1958 to ask General Ibrahim Abboud to stage a military coup and hand over power to the military establishment in order to save the country from these conditions. As well as the civil resistance that ended the rule of the military and paved the way for a democratic government that lasted until 1969.
